Get to know Dr. Watson

I have various interests including gardening, exercising, preparing plant-based meals and desserts, crafting, traveling, exploring nature, spending time with family and friends, and playing with our cats, Ziggy and Penny. I also enjoy working along side my partner to create content for our social medical channels to educate people about food, nutrition, and the impacts on physical and mental health.

My life embodies peace, health, wellness, and balance, and these are some of the many strengths I bring into my clinical practice.

Clinical Experience

I have been in private practice since 2020 and, I have over 10 years of federal work experience in the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

In private practice, I see adults with a range of presenting concerns such as anxiety, depression, medical conditions, life stress, grief/loss, workplace burnout, interpersonal difficulties, and academic stress.

During my years at the VA, I worked as a health psychologist in primary care and medical units including hospice, the ALS Clinic, and emergency room departments. I led various groups in smoking cessation, chronic pain management, and weight loss management. I also served on the clinical supervision board for pre-doctoral psychology interns and offered individual supervision in health psychology.

Later in my career, I received specialized training in suicide prevention and worked in the national suicide prevention program offering evidence-based suicide prevention therapy to high risk veterans for almost three years.

Over the years, I have acquired core competencies in areas of: health psychology, geropsychology, and suicide prevention, which taught me how to work efficiently and effectively with various medical and mental health complexities.

I love learning and enjoy equipping my clients with evidence-based strategies they can apply to their lives. My passion is understanding how the whole body works to heal itself, which is why I am passionate about functional medicine, nutrition, and mindfulness meditation. Due to my own thirst for knowledge, I completed advanced trainings in mindfulness based stress reduction and nutritional psychology.

While at CDC, I worked in breast cancer prevention, which was rewarding and informative. Working within an interdisciplinary team and participating in community-based research, allowed me to appreciate how our environment, values, beliefs, and childhood experiences impact our health and quality of life.

Given my diverse personal and professional background, I am able to incorporate these unique attributes to treat my clients with wisdom, compassion, humility, and appreciation. I am able to think outside of the box and tailor evidence-based interventions to improve the lives of my clients and instill hope.
